If you think about chauffeur services, you tend to summon up an image of huge gas guzzling limos rather than something environmentally friendly. Yet that may be about to change thanks to Ecochauffeur, an offshoot of established chauffeur company iChauffeur. Can a chauffeur company ever be green?

Cities like Copenhagen and Amsterdam have long been home to devoted bicycling commuters. But the new programs have created the greatest transportation revolution in central and southern Europe, where warmer climates allow riders to move about comfortably year-round. The shared bicycles in Barcelona, Lyon and Paris are heavily used - logging about 10 rides a day, according to officials in those cities. Bicycle-sharing mania takes hold in Europe

Environmentally friendly, socially positive and easy on the wallet – both scootering' and cycling are an incredibly sustainable form of transport. They are also good for the public purse. According to a report commissioned by Cycling England, each regular cyclist – someone who uses a bike more than three times a week – should save the NHS £28.30 a year. 'If the NHS built cycle paths...'

I would love a scooter for getting to work and back. The savings on petrol would pay for the scooter plus be so much better for the environment.

Three in four buyers would look for a vehicle with low carbon dioxide emissions when making their next purchase, a survey for the Newspaper Marketing Agency (NMA) found. Motorists seek more green cars

They can be seen buzzing and weaving in their thousands through the congested streets of Delhi, Bangalore and Beijing, slicing through some of the world’s most intolerable traffic jams. Now the distinctive electric scooters that have taken India and China’s snarled-up streets by storm are set to hit London after the world’s largest commercial producer said that it would start manufacturing in the UK next year. Scooters offer electric solution in traffic

Less than a fifth of the biofuel used on UK roads meets environmental standards intended to safeguard human rights and guarantee carbon savings, figures released today show. The Renewable Fuels Agency says just 19% of the biofuel supplied under the government's new initiative to use biofuel to help tackle global warming met the green standard. For the remaining 81% of the biofuel, suppliers could not say where it came from, or could not prove that it had been produced in a sustainable way. UK biofuel 'not up to standard'

Here is an outstanding new business (franchise) opportunity which also promotes green motoring. Ecocabs are pedal-powered (but battery-assisted, when necessary) tricycles that can accommodate three people for emissions-free transit through congested urban areas. Launched in April, they offer short-distance travel within the Dublin city centre from 10 am to 7 pm, seven days a week. Rides on the vehicles are free, of course, through the power of sponsorship. Vehicles are wrapped with brand-specific colours and imagery, and drivers can also hand out leaflets, wear branded clothing or target particular areas of the city. (Ecocabs are also available to act as a dedicated or on-demand shuttle service for customers, clients and employees, as well as at product launches, photo-shoots, trade-fairs, public sporting events, etc.) pedal powered taxis

Whereas most ethanol is based on corn, Coors produces about 3 million gallons of the stuff each year from beer that gets lost during packaging or is deemed below quality standards, for one reason or another. Coors says it is the nation's first major brewer to convert its waste beer into ethanol, having begun the practice back in 1996 using a facility owned by Merrick & Co. Turning the waste beer into ethanol eliminates about 70 tons of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) from Coors' emissions annually, it says. Waste beer to power convention cars

Good news! The government wants to see a shift to clean and efficient energy usage, to include massive increases in the use of conventional hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric drive technology in ordinary family models. Brown's drive for greener vehicles

‘Green Box’ technology; a small device that hooks up to the vehicle’s Engine Management System and reads the motorist’s driving style. The Green Box then sends that information wirelessly to MORE TH>N’s new website, https://greenwheels.morethan.com where drivers can confidentially access personalised reports on their driving style to help improve their “eco-driving”. With National Bike Week taking place between 14 and 22 June, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has advised businesses of the tax advantages of staff cycling to work – and that’s as well as the health, cost and environmental benefits. Cycle to work and see the tax benefits

I saw a news article the other day on natural gas vehicles (NGV's). Rather than running on diesel or gasoline these vehicles run on natural gas and have lower tailpipe emissions than other vehicles. These vehicles cost a bit more, but certainly seem to be worth considering. I certainly am interested in learning more about the various greener options available to motorists. Moderator DC

You can always go diesel, then obtain a natural gas conversion kit. Better yet, find a bio-diesels station in your area. If you're really ambitious, you can realistically set out to make your own bio-diesel. Or you can have an independent converter preform an electric vehicle conversion (the modification of a conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) driven vehicle to battery electric propulsion). You can also partner with a local University for current research on the subject. If you have customers in the countryside, you may qualify for Rural Initiative grants. Otherwise, here are some more funding resources: What kind of grants are available? Such big undertakings can be daunting. But if you go through with it, you'll most likely be glad that you did. Furthermore, the next 7 generations will thank you for trying to make this place greener!
