Report suggests that up to 33% of startup's don't know what marketing is. It has been suggested today that almost 40% of new companies do not have a marketing plan and almost half of new businesses launch without any form of marketing or advertising budget. hi Scott almost a moth has gone by... and most businesses will still be trying to figure out how to get out of the current economic situation. The problem they now face is the dilemma of not having and plan to execute on - and not having the time to develop one either........... and so the problem does not get addressed. We have to break this cycle and take time to develop our plan, it will pay dividends going forward as the next set of actions will be defined and understood.... rgds Geoff -- Geoff Gwynn

It does seem to follow that many small business owners might be wrapped up in other phases of business -- financing, product launch, staffing, payroll, pricing, etc., at the expense of a solid and well thought out marketing plan. Unfortunately, this can result in the symptoms Geoff points out. What would be the best strategy for owners to use to resolve this, given they have an established business but little or no marketing strategy? From my experience this is absolutely spot on, albeit you could argue with the actual percentages. Without a doubt there is not enough focus on sales and marketing planning and how to use the different media get YOUR message to YOUR IDEAL customer. The lack of planning usually results in a patchy sales approach, inconsistent results and missed revenue projections. Sales and marketing planning identifies the day to day activities to deliver consistent results.. regards -- Geoff Gwynn
